Today, March 4th, marks the
opening of the 2008 Florida Legislature. Our Heritage Plate bill, HB1159,
will be working its way through several committees, on its way to becoming
law.
It is IMPERATIVE that you
contact, by phone or email, all of the legislators listed below, and ask
them, in a brief note, to support HB 1159. It is NOT necessary for you to
indicate what organization (SCV, UDC, OCR) that you belong to. I suggest
that you omit this information, so that they will think you are simply a
Florida Citizen, and not associated with any particular group. You need to
make this contact within the next 12 to 24 hours, as the bill could have
moved to another committee after that.
Your letter can be very
simple:
Dear Representative <name>,
I am writing to ask you to
support HB 1159, which creates a specialty plate honoring Florida's
Confederate History and Heritage. As a registered voter, and supporter of
this effort, I believe that it is important to allow all Floridians to
embrace their history and culture. The funds raised by this license plate
will enrich public education, restore cemeteries and monuments, and
contribute positively towards preserving Florida's diverse history.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans have met all requirements set forth by the
State for obtaining their plate, and my family and I look forward to being
able to purchase them for our vehicles.
I urge you to support HB
1159.

way through several "Councils" and Committees. Below are the first groups
that will be dealing with our bill. Please send an email, and/or phone EACH
MEMBER as soon as possible. You can't imagine how just a few dozen emails
or phone calls can make all the difference. 28 emails turned 8
"on-the-fence" legislators last year on a communications bill. Your voice
